Life-Work Discovery

Life-Work Discovery consists of a 7-Step Model that includes the following components:neal-graphic.JPG

Deep Self-Exploration - You look inward to complete probing assignments geared to surfacing your unique talents and gifts.
Life and Career Design - You identify and define several options for further, more detailed consideration.
Fears & Resistance
- You confront and accept your fears as normal, part of the human condition, and work to transform your personal barriers into pathways to success.
Research - You gather information and establish a resource network to identify people and resources that can help you achieve your goals.
Action Plan - You define short- and long-term goals while formulating specific action steps to achieve them.
Coaching - You employ a skilled coach to guide you and reinforce your commitment to working your plan.
The Job/Business Game - You learn how to put yourself in front of decision-makers who can hire you, give you a consulting contract, or fund your business.

How is Life-Work Discovery different from other coaching approaches?

Most career coaches treat only one or two of the key needs of their clients. They offer personality and skill assessments which generate prescriptions of careers to pursue.

When coaching a job search, they put great emphasis on cover letters and resumes when such efforts, while useful, do not address the real challenge of penetrating the hidden job marketplace: reaching the decision-maker who has hiring authority.

Most do not train their clients to network effectively. They may mention networking, but they don’t utilize a comprehensive networking system that brings the client face to face with decision-makers who can hire them, grant them a contract, or fund their business.

Finally, little or no attention is given to dealing with the very real fears and resistance all job seekers face as they confront the job marketplace.

Future Design Studio features the comprehensive LWD model that 1)brings true clarity around the choice of careers; 2)empowers clients to confront and work through their fears and resistance and 3)trains clients to identify, meet and interview decision-makers who can help them. We might compare Life-Work Discovery with traditional career coaching by looking at the various aspects of both models:

Traditional Approaches: Market driven, reactive, testing, reliance on paper, one formula fits all, no accomodation for fears and resistance, one dimentional, targeted solely to the job seeker.

Life-Work Discovery: Person-driven (you), proactive, deep questioning, reliance on people, each person unique, turning fears into empowerment, multi-dimensional: useful for jobs, consulting, creating a business.
